Coming Of Age Essays (1205 words) - Rites Of Passage, Commandments
Coming Of Age Coming of Age is a very important ritual in some cultures. Many cultures believe that you need a coming of age ritual to do exactly what it says; come of age, which if u analyze, may mean be of age to produce children. Most coming of age rituals take place around puberty, between the ages of ten and thirteen. Of the ones I have found, they all involve a big celebration of some kind including the whole family. Coming of age rituals may involve boys becoming men, girls becoming women, or both. Of the ones that celebrate both, they may stress more on one sex then the other. The Navahos, the Aruntas, people who study the religion of Judaism, and the Yanomamis are all cultures that have rituals for coming of age. The Navahos of the mid-west united states celebrate both the boys and the girls coming of age, yet they stress the girls a lot more then the men. The men go simply on a vision quest by themselves to find a lifelong helper and guide. The women's rituals are more complex. They celebrate the Kinaalda, which translates to ?Changing Woman?, which is a 4 day ritual for them. The ?Changing Woman? is said to bring fertility and long life to other women of the tribe. A major part of the kinaalda is the traditional run towards the sun's rays, which symbolize life, truth, beauty, and goodness. After the run is completed she will grind corn; which symbolizes the sun to the Navahos, for a cake. At the end of the fourth day they place the cake over a fire for the night. While the cake is baking everyone of the family stays up all night singing and praising, until the break of dawn when the sunlight's rays touch the girl. They sing one final song and then the ceremony is over. The Aruntas, and aboriginal tribe of Australia, celebrates the boys coming of age around the age of ten or twelve. This celebration gives the boy power and approval by the ancestors. First he is taken away from girls and made to march to a camp. Men throw him in the air while women scream and shout. Many patterns are painted on his body by relatives, he is instructed not to play with women or girls, and he is cut in the nasal septum so that he can wear a nose bone. Older men role play in dances as ancients and chant stories about the heroes of sacred times. The boy's future mother in law gives him a burning stick and he must keep the flame alive, symbolizing keeping faithful in a marriage to her daughter who was picked as his bride when he was born. After this, in the men's camp, many rituals are performed over three days to pass down knowledge and tradition from other generations, since they have no written language. He is forbidden to speak unless spoken to. Then the adult women re join the celebrants, but instead of welcoming them back, the men throw pieces of bark at them, symbolizing the removal of the boy from women's influences. After a couple more ceremonies which are very difficult to explain for the culture of these people is very complex, the women are allowed back into camp and the ceremonies are over. The people who study Judaism, many times referred to as Jews, have celebrated the Bar Mitzvah similarly as we know it today since the sixth century CE. I don't prefer to call them ?Jews? because it seems to have almost a mocking tone to it, something Hitler would have said, and we all know what Hitler did. The Bat Mitzvah was not developed until the middle ages. The difference between the Bar and Bat Mitzvah is that the Bar Mitzvah is for the boys becoming man and the Bat Mitzvah is for the girls becoming women. Mitzvah can be translated as ?good deed? or commandment. The Bar/Bat Mitzvah occurs when a child has reached thirteen years of age. Before thirteen it had to been seen that the parents were obliged to carry out religious responsibilities for the child. During the religious service of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah,

Density essays
Density essays Density is a mass of a unit volume of a material substance. When the object was put in the water the water level went up because the object had density and volume. If the object was heavy it would make the water level go up more, if it was lighter it wouldnt make it go up as much. The volume of the object matters more though. If the volume of the object goes in to the graduated cylinder, it will cause the waters volume to move up. Density is not a characteristic of an object. Objects with different weights have different densities. Volume is equal to the mass divided by the density. Density is a convenient way of getting the mass of an object from its volume or vice versa. Each and every particle has a different density. The density of an object has to do with the gravity of that object. Density is measured in different ways. The lab was a way to measure density. Density could also be expressed as gravity The term density is also used to figure out the ratio! of the number of particles in a given volume, or the total amount of a quantity such as energy or momentum carried by a volume, to that volume, as in charge density, electron density, and energy density. And also to figure out the blackness of the image on film or on a photographic plate-photographic density. ...

Fundamentals of Contract Law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Fundamentals of Contract Law - Essay Example This letter also stipulated the precedence of MSC company terms and provision was made for an increase in price. Therefore Betty has not agreed to the original terms of Ableââ¬â¢s contract, she has only accepted conditionally1. Therefore, this is a counter offer which is in effect a rejection of the original offer that Able has made. Therefore, it is now Bettyââ¬â¢s offer that is up for negotiation and Able has indicated his acceptance of Bettyââ¬â¢s offer by signing on the tear off slip that is attached to her companyââ¬â¢s order form. Since there is no further communication from Betty, this would be deemed to be the final agreement between the two parties with Able having consented to Bettyââ¬â¢s terms. A valid contract between two parties may be said to exist only when the parties ââ¬Å"assent to the same thing in the same sense, and their minds meet as to all terms.â⬠2 Able was free to reject Bettyââ¬â¢s counter offer, since a counter offer in effect, free s the offerer Able from any liability.3 But he signed on Bettyââ¬â¢s order form, which means he has accepted the terms of Bettyââ¬â¢s counter offer and the original offer has been rejected. However, this raises the issue of the clause that he has entered in the tear off slip that he has signed, which states that the offer was accepted based on the terms of the original offer. This belies the agreement implied through Abelââ¬â¢s signature on the tear off slip, because in indicates that Able is still not ready to accede to Bettyââ¬â¢s terms but is intent on enforcing the original terms.Ã

Diabetes mellitus type 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Diabetes mellitus type 2 - Essay Example This is when blood cells not only ignore insulin but also prevent glucose absorption in to the body, hence resulting to its build up in the blood (Braham, 2011). The initial symptoms of type 2 diabetes mellitus are the emission of a faint smell, normally fruit or vegetable order, in his breath or urine. This urine is commonly known as sweet urine (Braham, 2011). The essay will shed more light on diabetes mellitus type 2, its symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and patient education. Diabetes mellitus type 2 is the most common type of diabetes. According to studies so far conducted, it is cited to have contributed to about 90-95% of all the complicationââ¬â¢s cases (Levenne & Donnelly, 2008). Apart from high blood pressure, other risk factors associated with this malady include genetic factors and high cholesterol levels. In most cases, its occurrence is due to the disruption of sensitive tissues to the extent that they no longer respond properly to insulin, hence graduating to insulin resistance (Poretsky, 2010). This is a state where accumulation of glucose in the blood exceeds the appropriate levels. This condition if not treated earlier, it normally results to failing of peripheral blood tissues. Generally, Type 2 if untreated can be life threatening, especially if not detected earlier. This is because lack of treatment can result to severe complications such as kidney failure, blindness and nerve damage (Braham, 2011). Studies contend type 2 is the main contributing factor in the contraction of strokes and coronary heart diseases. This is due to the narrowing and hardening of blood vessels, which is a problem commonly known as atherosclerosis (Braham, 2011). Loss of glucose in urine and elevated blood sugar levels are the earliest symptoms of untreated type 2 condition. Some of type 2 symptoms that follow later on usually vary across persons. The most cited symptoms of this type are usually blurred

Ps I Love You Film Review Essay Example for Free
Ps I Love You Film Review Essay ââ¬Å"Finding someone you love and who loves you back is a wonderful, wonderful feeling. But finding a true soul mate is an even better feeling. A soul mate is someone who understands you like no other, loves you like no other, will be there for you forever, no matter what. They say that nothing lasts forever, but I am a firm believer in the fact that for some, love lives on even after were gone.â⬠This quotation comes from book ââ¬Å"PS I love youâ⬠, written by Cecelia Ahern, and perfectly describes the novel. This book is definitely for women, when you read this you can find yourself laughing and crying all at once. Holly and Gerry had a perfect life. They are happily married, they lived in Dublin closed to their friends and family, the world lies at their feet. When Gerry dies, Holly is devastated. At the day of her 30th birthday, the man who was her soul mate, her lover, has left her. The only one who can help her is the person who is no longer there. But before he died, Gerry wrote a series of letters, some kind of guide includes a mission for Holly to get her life back on track. Over the years which they were together Garry has always been the organized one and long before he became sick he joked with Holy that if he died before her, he would leave her a special list of things to do to assure her life ran smoothly without him. And he kept his promise. Holly discovers that her mother has a large envelope for her. One for each of the remaining months of the year. Letters are delivered in surprising ways, each contained a new adventure or challenges and each signing of in the same way: ââ¬Å"P.S. I Love Youâ⬠. Its a bittersweet tale that not only focuses on death but also celebrates life and the joy that is found in living. And although Holly eventually finds peace through the letters that Gerry has left behind, its her family and friends that play the biggest part in helping her to let go and move on from grief. Hollys mother and best friends begin to worry that Gerrys letters are keeping Holly tied to the past, but in fact, each letter is pushing her further into a new future. Gerrys first instructions are not only to Holly, but also to her best friends, to get out and celebrate Hollys birthday together. Denise and Sharon seem to represent two aspects of life, Sharon is married and is on her way to building a family, while Denise is still single. She is looking for the right guy, but she does not want to waste time, so she has her checklist. She is definitely not shy but the most importantly, she is a good friend. Hollys friend Sharon is married to John, who, as often happens with couples, was Gerrys best friend. John is in a bit of a strange position because he loved Gerry, too, and maybe he is feeling a little left out. John thinks he will never have another friend like Gerry. The next character is The new bartender in Patricias pub, Daniel meets and forms an instant attraction to Holly at, of all places, Gerrys wake. Is interesting, and spontaneous and he says things that are unpredictable, and does not feel the need to apologize if people are taken aback. He becomes a shoulder for Holly to lean on because he is the one person among her friends who didnt know Gerry so theres no reason for him to tread lightly or walk on eggshells when his name comes up, which she finds refreshing. Daniel is brave enough to speak his mind, and I think that is helpful to Holly in dealing with her loss. With Gerrys words as her guide, Holly embarks on a journey of rediscovery in a story about marriage, friendship and how a love so strong can turn the finality of death into a new beginning for life. The tasks range was different, from getting a new job to singing karaoke in front of a nightclub audience. With some help from her friends, and her noisy and loving family, Holly aversely embraces each of the tasks and discovers along the way that she has more inner strength than she could ever have imagined. She also struggle with feelings of guilt when she meets a handsome man who is clearly attracted to her. The love story is told in a unique way. The main character must started to live without her husband. He was the earth she lived, the ground she stepped and air she breathes. She did not have a proper job, she was not ambitious, she did not have any hobbies. Everything she did in her life revolved around Gerry. They were talking about how unpredictable life could be as one didnââ¬â¢t always get what one expected. No matter how many times you read this book, it will always brings you a smile on your lips with tears in your eyes. This is one of those books that make you cry from the time it starts, then later on lifts you up with some comedy, proceeds with an aura of hope and some heart-warming flash-backs. Cecelia Ahern has written this book brilliantly, she describes the emotions and struggle of life. Author also has taught me a valuable lesson about the true meaning of living and the divide between life and death, and gave the lesson about what it takes to lead meaningful and purposeful life. I really enjoyed it book. It is a romance, but it explores a hard issue. I would recommend this book to anyone that loves a good dramatic, and funny fiction story. Of the front of the book you can find a quote: Everyone needs a guardian angel and I hope we all do.

A grace became a curse Essay --
For the past three years, the global economy has known a severe recession triggered by the financial meltdown and the collapse of the commercial and industrial activity in the world. This slowdown weighed its effects on the growth of economies worldwide. Algeria, which is not fully integrated into the international economy, is facing or will probably face some indirect effects of this crisis, but in a way less severe than in Europe; The payment of the debt by anticipation, the constitution of a reserve fund and, above all, the high volatility of oilââ¬â¢s prices have allowed Algeria, in the short term, to avoid a catastrophic scenario which could destroy the country. Algeria has all the material and human potential to be a pivotal country for development in the Euro-Mediterranean and the Arab-African areas. Unfortunately, Algeria is a country that depends on 96% of oil revenues. This uncertain business which is hostage of many externalities, can collapse at any time and drive t he whole county into a total chaos. The lack of diversification in the Algerianââ¬â¢s economy is making its future uncertain and its standard of living receding. Despite the severity of its effects and the extent of its damages, this crisis can be an opportunity for Algeria to question the supremacy of its economy. It presents the opportunity to straighten out the economy by the execution of profound structural changes which would generate real effects on the economy and on the employment in the long term, and to rethink a model of development for a successful and real transition to the market economy; build a growth which is released from the dependency to hydrocarbons and from the volatility of their prices to finally erase political system based hitherto e... ...ple where a young man never studied, doesnââ¬â¢t have any skills and depends on his parents, when he loses them; he ends up with no possibilities to make a living and realizes that he did invest his youth for his future. The Algerianââ¬â¢s economy is extremely weakened by the annuitant status. This vulnerability is the concatenation of the low diversification of the economy, but also stagnation and decline. Revenues from oil revenues are sufficient to keep it in a static state. Stagnation triumph without sharing. Other economic sectors without clear policies and strategies without defined. Economic actors are paralyzed by invisibility or absence of long-term programs, their inconsistency and lack of planning and vision for the future. The State seems more than ever a follower of the annuity, however, contrary to productive investment and any economic viability

Pricing Strategy
Universal Rental Printing Car Assignment Objective: The objective of the simulation was to increase profits of Universal Car Rental Company. The simulation was run across three cities in Florida, Tampa, Orlando and Miami. Our strategy: We adopted a strategy of offering the highest price achievable whilst maintaining 100% capacity utilization respective to the market share. In the context of the scenario, where growth in demand outstripped supply and with only twelve ââ¬Ëroundsââ¬â¢, we felt market share was not fundamentally important. In respect of setting the pricing level, we calculated the price elasticity of demand to give us an insight into the increment we could increase the price. We concluded that price elasticity of supply was irrelevant in the context of this simulation. Customer price response: We were quickly able to observe that weekday and weekend demand out did supply; we concluded that weekday demand was an alternative for business users and weekend demand was m ore for leisure users. The most important aspect we considered was increasing our fleet size to meet market demand. We lost a considerable amount of sales by not meeting customer orders. This could have been easily resolved by steady increase of a number of fleet added per month. Universal should also increase brand awareness by applying brand management. After our great performance and steady increase in market demand Universal should increase marketing in several media applications. Some of theses applications should include, airport advertising, e-advertising, TV commercials and newspaper ads. By advertising in these areas, Universal is certain to increase brand awareness and future success. Final Result: My partner and I were able to increase the accumulative profit of Universal Rental Car Company to $268 million.
